Buffet Counter for Anantara Kihavah Maldives.
Our latest and proudest achievement is the fanatastic Buffet Counter for Plates restaurant at Anantara’s new Kihavah Villas Resort in the Maldives. Designed by Ed Poole from Poole Associates this design really challenged us and made us rethink what it is possible to make using wood. Realized first in 3D using SketchUp every lamination has a different mitre angle giving a very fine edge to each petal. As the layers built up we shaped and carved each petal by hand to its final shape. Made from solid teak, each section is trimmed with Rosewood where they bolt together. Outside diameter of the petals is 8.2 metres, and each petal is made up of 75 laminations. We really pushed the boundaries with this project and the final result has to be seen to fully appreciate it.
