Production Info

HotWax Furniture’s production is split into two main sections, but all products are characterised by fine joinery, time honoured and tried and tested methods of production and construction. The mainstay of these are of course, mortise and tenon joints, hand cut dovetail joints and glue and screws.
Teak Garden Furniture:
The teak garden furniture is produced in a home industry situation by skilled craftsmen with years of experience in garden furniture manufacture. These craftsmen use certified plantation grown teak to build the teak garden furniture designs to our companies exacting specifications and standards. A combination of air drying, waste wood fired kiln drying and solar kiln drying are used to dry the boards and components down to a moisture content of approximately 12%. The furniture passes a stringent quality control process before being thoroughly sanded with 4 successively finer grades of sandpaper.
The teak garden furniture is available in 2 main finishes, the completely natural Super Fine Sanded or Oiled and Waxed with either Teak oil or Tung oil. After a final inspection the furniture is well wrapped in Single face cardboard with extra protection given to vulnerable areas like corners of table tops.
All Teak garden furniture hardware is made from solid brass or stainless steel, as are all fasteners.
Indoor Furniture:
90% of the Indoor furniture is machine made in house at the HotWax factory. The exceptions are some of the Antique, French Country, Distressed paint and Dining chair ranges. We buy Teak, Mahogany, Indonesian Rosewood, Indonesian Oak and Mango wood logs from sustainable sources and have complete control of the sawing and kiln drying process. All components and joinery are then machine cut and hand fitted to produce the final product. This then passes the same stringent quality control process as all other furniture before its thorough sanding. Indoor furniture is available in a various finishes, ranging from Polyurethane and Nitrocellulose lacquers, through shellac and wax to Tung oil and other oil finishes. The furniture is then finally inspected and packed in the normal thorough manner to ensure no damage during shipping.
Once again all solid brass or stainless steel fittings are used.
